I followed the instructions on the "update profile" page, successfully downloaded a new avatar shown below and verified my email address via the email that was sent to me. Instead of changing my avatar to the one that was downloaded, I got the new avatar you see now. I tried several other combinations of going about this but I can't seem to get the avatar I downloaded, to show up.
Can someone give me step by step instructions? Thanks !

JWs say, "They don't judge"
by skeeter1 inwhat is up with jws?
lately, i've heard this line, "we don't judge .
but, doesn't everyone judge?
-

Godsend - oh yes there are some judgy old sisters who pull the "cat's bottom face" whenever they see me.
Around here it's know as the "Judgie Face " ( gotten it a few times since we've walked away from the org.)
The religion is not about simply teaching the Bible (as they understand it) and letting individuals apply it in their lives as they see fit. It's about enforcement of rules, making judgements and handing out serious punishments.

I tried to make an elder feel guilty for shunning his 2 children.
by Jeannette ini ran into an elder the other day at walmart.
he's a fairly good man and has a wife that is very sickly.
so sickly in fact i don't know how she's holding on.

One could say in so many words.....
Yes....and it must be difficult for you and especially "Mrs Elder" as a Mother, to knock on other peoples doors and be recommending her way of life to strangers and their families knowing that you and she are shunning the two kids you brought into this world. I mean, I suppose a householder would understand it if your kids were drug dealers or held up a bank or something but what would they think if they knew you folks had two healthy children who you have intentionally cut out of your life, simply because the don't share your same religious views...especially after loosing an infant child ? Oh well.....the Society is changing a lot of it's former teachings. Maybe they'll change that one before too long. Trouble is....life is short... and things can change rather quickly. One never knows from one day to the next if they'll have the chance to make things right....and to wait for a directive like that to come from people one has never actually even met...well...

Teaching Anthony Morris III names of common things.
by LogCon in"...what it is is this spanx, this skin-tight stuff they wear.
now, are you sisters wearing this in the ministry?
i can't say that i've ever seen that.

I think the Spanx/Spandex mixup was intended to show how above such mundane nonsense, he is. He leaves that sort of thing to the "little people".
What annoyed me more than the Spanx comment, was the part where he allegedly asked sisters what they thought of Brothers in "tight pants" and allegedly they all said that they didn't. (as if they'd answer a question like that honestly to a Brother let alone a Governing Body Member.)

This religion is about to be toast.
by kneehighmiah inthe governing body is preparing to take a major hit.
this recent watchtower shows it.
not the new understandings, but the article on marriage.

In the picture the bridesmaid in the center is not smiling. I wonder why?
It was somewhat surprizing to see this photo showing an Asian Sister with dyed hair. It's my "understanding" that it's somewhat frowned upon and sort of trashy for in Asian countries for women (especially JW women) to lighten their hair or perm it. I say this because a bunch of 19-20 year old Asian girls were hosted for the summer by some people in my former KH and the big deal coming from their families was that none of the girls was to do anything like that to their hair or they'd be in hot water when they got home.
Maybe the contemplative looking Bridesmaid is thinking "So I follow the all the rules....keep my hair natural like they said we should, while Miss Peroxide up there ends up getting married and once again I'm just the Bridesmaid ".

Many Member Just Want to Believe
by OnTheWayOut inif you are/were an active jw, you are now here on jwn so, for whatever your reasons, you woke up to some degree- hopefully a great degree.
so what i am saying may not apply to you.. i know that if i had not already left, i would have stormed out on the day they studied "overlapping generation.
" i am quite confident i couldn't have stayed for such an obvious switcharoo just to make the end seem imminent and try to explain how wts was wrong, but not entirely wrong in the past.. but i had to wonder how that change (or others) didn't cause most jw's to walk out.

Their beleifs are based on a premise that isn't provable in any tangible way and their circular reasoning takes them right back to that unprovable premise every time.
We all have seen what it takes and the residual damage that one has to recover from when we walked or were pushed away. As far as I can tell from my experience, most JW's stick with it much like an inexperienced or under educated employee sticks with a unsuitable job. They are afraid of the unknown and lack the personal confidence it takes to make a big change.

TROUBLED MAN EXPOSES ELDERS CULT MENTALITY IN DOVER UK
by raymond frantz introubled man exposes elders cult mentality in dover uk.
(watch the video till the end).
breaking in to kingdom halls and disturbing peaceful meetings is hardly the way to go when it comes to positive activism .nevertheless these incidents seem to become more frequent recently as the watchtower vehemently refuses to engage in a meaningful way with the problems of policy and doctrine that seem to trouble many jehovahs witnesses .that, coupled with the ever extending ex- jehovahs witnesses community and their harsh disfellowshiping practises is creating a new era where disturbances of that short will only become more frequent.

People who have been seriously wronged by the Watchtower organization or who simply want to leave it, are expected to disappear into the wild blue yonder and keep their mouths shut. They are expected to silently and humbly take whatever lumps they have coming to them. This is a faceless organization and no one in authority has anything tangible to base that authority upon or really knows for sure what to do when someone like Leon goes off the script and wants real answers instead of the platitudes and canned responses read from one of the Watchtower publications. Until now, anyone with a complaint about the Watchtower was a lone voice crying out in the wilderness without a shred of legal recourse. Thankfully however, the internet came along. Gone are the days when these people have to go away and somehow put the pieces of their shattered lives back together on their own. They now have a voice and this distraught man is making sure his story heard. The trouble is, years of mistreatment combined with the hurt and frustration of being shunned for speaking out about it, can make an otherwise rational person lash out wildly. These soft spoken people in their suits and ties and their thinly veiled disdain of anyone who dares speak against them, use this to their advantage. They are well rehearsed in keeping up an appearance of mildness and control but they are amateurs at everything else. They are often Janitors, Carpenters and Tradesmen who have little or no education and no secular training in helping people with real life problems. They dare to tread into matters that should be dealt with by highly trained professionals. They have the power within the congregation to devastate an individuals personal life and forever alter whole family lineages with their decisions. All this distraught man wants are real answers and an honest acknowledgement that he has indeed been wronged. This situation could have been de-esculated if one of those men simply said to him "Yes Leon, you and many others like you have been wronged and we are sorry for all the years you suffered when you could have been helped had this organization trained us to serve you better, but please let us help you now " . Although I'm sure these men know in their hearts, there is truth in what Leon is saying, they won't ever admit that they or Watchtower organization could have been wrong, for doing so would be opening doors for them personally, that can never be shut again

One witless I know actually said "I really like Brother Lett - his face is soo expressive, the eyebrows go up and he uses his lips to enunciate every word clearly. And he speaks slowly so it is easy to follow what he is saying."
I'm not sure if it's true but my understandg is the reason he speaks this way is because he grew up in a household where both parents are deaf and he too is partially deaf. He apparently has always had to enunciate his words slowly for those who read lips and use hands to "sign" and his face to help express the emotion of what he is saying.
If this is true, you'd think he'd use sign language during his broadcasts so everyone could "hear"what his message is directly but then again it might be less distracting to use closed captioning instead.

2nd the lazyness IMO it gives to the streetwork/preaching. I came up in the era that you were not preaching unless you were approaching people
I understand what you're saying but that comment reminds me of how old folks say "Back in my day, we had to WALK to school uphill BOTH WAYS !"
Seems like JW's can't win....they're pushy if they approach people or their lazy if they just wait for the people to approach them.
